Rejuvenation Project

Towards the end of 2016 the Parish Council agreed a major project to rejuvenate the Memorial Garden to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War on 11 November 2018.

The project involved an extensive replanting scheme and the installation of heritage interpretation panels. The results can be seen in photographs on our website gallery. The Garden is now lighter, more welcoming, more colourful and more interesting, restored to its original purpose as a place of remembrance for those from Market Bosworth who lost their lives during both World Wars.

Five panels have been installed. They detail the background to the Memorial Garden, the names of the fallen and the story of Market Bosworth during both World Wars, highlighting places across the village which were significant at the time such as the Doctors' Surgery, Market Bosworth Railway Station and Bosworth Hall, thus providing connections and links across the village and between the newer settlements and the historic core.

The Garden is now not only a place for quiet reflection, recognition, reminiscence and remembrance, but also a focal point for residents, for those whose ancestors were involved in the wars, for genealogists, tourists and local visitors interested in 20th century local history and heritage.

It is hoped that those who visit and enjoy the Garden will agree it is a source of pride for the community.

The Memorial Garden is open all year round for everyone to enjoy unsupervised at their leisure. The Parish Council is grateful to Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, LEADER, the Market Bosworth Society, Greener Gardens and Vertigo Creative Studio Limited for making the project a reality.

The Heritage Interpretation Panels installed in the Memorial Garden and these web pages under the title 'Memorial Garden' form part of project '109231 Market Bosworth Memorial Gardens' which has been made possible thanks to funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and LEADER.
