Parish & Community Initiative Fund - Speed Indicator Device
In response to complaints regularly received about speeding traffic, the Parish Council has purchased a portable speed indicator sign which it is hoped will encourage drivers to slow down, making our roads and footways safer. The sign will be rotated around Barton Road, The Park and Shenton Lane and it is hoped to extend the scheme in the future subject to permissions required from Highways.
Better traffic management is an aspiration of the Market Bosworth Neighbourhood Plan which was adopted in 2015. Data analysis from the portable speed indicator device should provide important background evidence to assist with traffic management, the placement of signage and the painting of lines, roundels, 'dragons teeth', 'SLOW DOWN' etc. It is hoped the data analysis will also assist in the preparation of proposals for the redevelopment of the Market Place, the review of existing school travel plans and establish the accuracy of complaints received about speeding traffic.
Cllr Martin Cartwright, executive member for Rural Communities at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council said: "It is sad that our rural villages suffer from speeding and Market Bosworth certainly suffers from the speeding issue on many of its roads. The purchase of a portable speed indicator sign part funded by the Parish Council and the Borough Council working together will allow the Parish Council to locate this sign in any one of three of the hotspots in Market Bosworth. Indeed, just as effective was the five of us standing under the newly installed sign which seemed to have a dramatic effect on the speed of approaching cars that passed while we were there taking this photograph. I sincerely hope the sign will help to reduce the speed in all parts of Market Bosworth to a level that keeps us all safe living, visiting or passing through Market Bosworth. I would be very interested to learn of the results Market Bosworth obtains as a result of this speed indicator sign being installed over time."
Cllr John Wasteney, Chairman of the Parish Council said: "The Parish Council is pleased to acknowledge funding from the Borough Council's Parish & Community Initiative Fund to support the introduction of a new speed indicator sign which will encourage drivers to slow down and provide a valuable database of traffic speed."
