Public Consultation: Market Place Redevelopment Scheme

Market Bosworth Parish Council invites you to two public consultation events that outline an exciting opportunity to redevelop the centre of Market Bosworth. The events will be held in Market Bosworth Community Library, Station Road on Friday 26th October between 3.00 pm and 7.00 pm and Saturday 27th October 2018 between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm.

An increase in the number of residents, visitors, through traffic, school children, their parents and staff, has put a strain on the infrastructure of this historic town centre environment which has limited scope for change. The proposal has already passed independent road safety audits and gained support from the police and other statutory authorities. Concerns identified by residents (captured in the Neighbourhood Plan), visitors, businesses, traders and the wider community are addressed by:

  • Improving pedestrian safety at road crossing places - road and footpath layout
  • Creating extra car parking spaces - one-way system / echelon parking
  • Increasing footfall for shops - time restricted parking / parking strategy
  • Reducing the speed of traffic - road layout / 20 mph limit
  • Improving the market place environment - surface finish / street furniture / lighting

The public consultation events are for people who live, work or carry out business in Market Bosworth. You will be able to vote 'Yes' or 'No' on the proposed Market Place Redevelopment Scheme and to make written comments about flexible elements of the scheme, such as street furniture. Maps, diagrams and models will be on show to demonstrate how the proposal would be implemented. You will have the opportunity to talk with councillors who have been involved in this project throughout the early stages and ask questions to find out how a practical solution to a very complex requirement evolved. The next stage of the project, following a positive outcome at consultation, would be to identify costs and seek funding to implement the scheme. Further details can be found in the Parish Council Autumn 2018 Newsletter which will be distributed to all households and businesses in early October with the October edition of The Graphic.

The project is taking place thanks to a Developing Communities Fund grant awarded by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, with the remit to prepare a town centre redevelopment proposal for approval by the residents and businesses of Market Bosworth.
